Awhile back, I had my PC in a shop as it had been running extremely slow.
When I got it going again, there was no sound. I downloaded the appropriate drivers for audio from the Dell support site, but it still does not work. I have had difficulty getting ahold of the repairman to see if he can help;i.e; is the sound card disconnected. Meanwhile, I wondered if , having dl the driver, if I needed to do anything to get it working. (I expect the was an installation process, but I don't remember.

When I have had this problem, on both my laptop and desktop, I have found to my embarrassment that I had turned on the mute button or turned off the speakers. So do check the volume has simply been turned to zero.

I'm with you. I did not have the volume turned up on my speakers. However, the repairs may have resulted in the built in speaker not working. Even when I took it back to the repairman, he did not get the sound working without the external speakers.

On my computer the computer speakers shut off when you plug in earphones or external speakers. Don't you have this feature?

I found out about the speakers turning off the sound after an afternoon. I let my son use the computer and did not notice he had used earphones. When I went on the system it took 4 hours and he finally said what he did.
