In windows live mail, how can I preview a message before opening it. In outlook express, there was a "preview" button which allowed viewing the incoming email and using a right click to access properties to check the source of the email. If the email was from a source that I did not know, I could delete the email. I want to do the same thing in windows live mail.

Hi,
My Windows Live Mail (in WinXP) allows for the Preview pane, as follows:

Open the mail program.
View > Layout > checkmark "Show the reading pane" > OK

Once you check "Show the reading Pane" you will see the options to display the preview at the bottom or to the right of the message list

To get Properties, right-click on an email in the message list and click on "Properties."

Hi Deanvet,

One more comment on your question. You said, " preview a message before opening it" -- I do not think the previewing an email is the same as not opening it. Dana or some other expert can comment on that.

Hi denvet,

Laverne is right. Viewing an e-mail in the preview pane is the same risk as opening it. The safe way to view an e-mail without letting loose the "payload" is to view the e-mail in Source view which is text only.

Windows Live Mail has many versions and off shoots (like Windows Live Hotmail) and viewing source is not available in some versions. I'll need to know what version of Windows Live Mail and what version of Windows (like Vista or Win7) to find the info you want. I'm still hanging on to OE, but when I upgrade I'm moving to Outlook because what I know of Windows Live Mail doesn't let me do what I can in OE and Outlook.

HTH, Dana:))

Is this anything the person can use? You just posted it in your issue 268
