I have an Acer 5515 which I bought used some while ago and have used happily since. However I have noticed that although I never hear the fan running, it never seems to get hot (though there are warm spots) and there are none of the traditional signs of an overheated computer
By contrast my earlier Aspire 3000, now seized by my wife as hers, set up a fan howl every time the hard disc was accessed, until we recently bought her a cooling pad (lap tray with fan built in). I never hear the fan now.
On my 5515, do I just have a laptop that cools itself more efficiently, or am I just riding the lucky end of a curve? And should I spring for a new fan - proprietary and therefore exorbitantly expensive - or just get my own lap tray with fan and hope it will do the trick? |

If you are feeling no heat from the underside--some actually get too hot to place on your lap--I wouldn't worry. If the fan is working correctly is should barely be heard. At the same time, I bought a unit with two fans on Amazon for under $20.00 just as a precaution and for use when the laptop is being used continuously for more than a couple of hours

| Thanks - seems in line with my guessing, but you're more likely to know. They are a hot item at the cheaper computer shops here and very cheap. |
