It's that time of year again. Last year we held our 3rd Annual turkey contest and everyone enjoyed it a lot so we're doing it again this year.
This year is special so let's do it In Memory of Bossgobbler. The idea is mainly to recognize some of the great birds our forum members take throughout the spring with a little friendly competition.
Teams will be formed with hunters from across the country and take the best scoring birds from those teams, add them up and see who comes out on top. This is just an informal contest, no prizes or entry forms or anything, but it gives us a chance to keep up with everyone's season and gives some bragging rights as well.
What we need is for anyone interested in being part of this contest to reply to this topic and state what subspecies -- Eastern, Rio Grande, Osceola or Merriam's you are going to hunt for this year.
Contest is open to all members who enter prior to Feb 28,2007. If you have a child under 16 who wants to enter the contest, sign them up too. Consult Contest Rules for any question on how to register.
Also, to help us set the teams up, we need to know if you are an Experienced hunter or a Beginner. If you normally shoot at least one turkey a year, that makes you experienced in our book, no matter how old you are.
We'll have basically the same rules as last year. Each team will have at least 12 team members and we'll take the 5 highest scoring birds from the team, regardless of subspecies, to make up the team score. Only 1 bird can be used from any one team member.
Contest entries are due by 9:00 pm Eastern, Feb. 28. The contest will run through June 2, which will allow any of those late season hunters to get their entries in after the season is over. We will take the 5 best scoring turkeys from each team, regardless of subspecies. Only 1 turkey may be used from each team member for the team score. Each hunter can, however, enter as many birds as he wants for the individual awards.
It doesn't cost anything and there are lots of great turkey hunters here so ask questions and join in the discussions. Just remember that your team is counting on you so if you sign up, stick around and post your bird or at least let us know how your season went. We have lots of turkey veterans and beginners as well here so stick around ask some questions and get to know your team members.
Remember to check the Contest Rules section for more details.
Here would be a sample entry --
I'll be hunting Kansas and Missouri for Easterns & Florida for Osceolas
